Individual assignment-Stakeholder analysis and CSR strategy
This document introduces the individual assignment for the module New Directions in Business and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This assignment constitutes 70% of your overall module grade.
Please read the whole of this briefing before you begin working on your assignment.
You are first to select a company with which you are familiar, and on which there is enough secondary material available online in relation to their CSR practices and a particular CSR issue (either positive or negative) e.g. reports to stakeholders, online news articles, and academic journals. Example issues you could address include Shell in Nigeria, the Rana Plaza building collapse, Oxfam in Haiti, etc. You are NOT allowed to use the company used as an example during the seminar (BP).
You will start by analyzing the company’s engagement with its stakeholders, identifying key stakeholder groups in relation to the issue under study. In the second part of the assignment, you will have to conduct a critical analysis of the company’s approach to CSR, both before and after the CSR issue took place/the CSR area of activity was launched (if focusing on a positive issue). The assignment should end with conclusions/recommendations, related to your view on what the company should do in terms of CSR.
You must email me by Friday 22nd of October at the latest telling me the name of the company chosen and I will confirm if this company is suitable (please do NOT start working on the assignment until I have given you confirmation). Please send me 3 options in order of preference. The sooner you contact me, the more likely it is that you will be able to look at this company (only a maximum of 5 students will be allowed to focus their assignment on the same company/CSR issue).

2. What is the Task for this Assessment?
The assignment is formed by three blocks; –
1400 words in total. You are encouraged to draw upon CSR concepts, theories, and literature to build and support your answer.
Guidelines/Details of How to Prepare Your Submission
The first step in this assignment would involve researching companies and potential CSR issues/areas of activity. Once I have confirmed which company you can focus the assignment on, you will need to continue researching in order to gather as much information as possible about the company’s CSR and the issue itself. Please make sure you plan the structure of the assignment before you start writing. As part of your argument development, you are expected to conduct critical analysis, considering relevant CSR concepts, theories, and literature to support your answer argument.

Formatting Guidelines Prepare your assignment with 1-inch margins all around, double spaced, font size 12, Arial (inclusive of title page, tables, graphs) for the main body of the text. Deviations from the set formatting guidelines will be penalized with a 5 mark deduction. This level of strictness is to ensure optimal length consistency (and therefore fairness) for all submitted student assignments in this module.
The title page should include the title of your work, the module number, the module name, and your word count. Please do not include your name or student number. You are encouraged to structure the assignment with the appropriate headings and use tables/diagrams as necessary.
Word Limit/Guidance and Penalty Applied
The word length for the assignment is 3500 words (+/- 10%). Please indicate the word count on the title page. Appendices and the reference list do not count as part of the word count, everything else does.
Referencing Style Harvard. All academic and practitioner content, theories, and models that are included in your assignment must be appropriately referenced in terms of their source.
