Mr. Simon has spent 12 years of continuous service as a line manager in a retail organization. In the past three years, he has twice been considered for promotion via a formal interview process and was unsuccessful. On each occasion, the successful candidate had better formal qualifications than Mr. Simon, although he had more experience. He has very recently been rejected for promotion for the third time and is thought to be becoming disillusioned as a result of this. On passing him in the corridor you (Mr. Simon’s team leader) overhear him saying to a colleague, ‘I can see there is absolutely no possibility of advancement in this organization for me, it’s time I moved on. Mr. Simon is a very hard-working and diligent worker and is highly regarded by your team members and replacing his skills and abilities will be extremely difficult. You are currently studying attitudes, teams, and motivation theories as part of a management qualification. Explain why the topics you are studying may be useful in analyzing this particular situation and what positive measures could be implemented to attempt to re-motivate this employee.
According to Rollinson (2010 p185) leadership can be defined as “a process in which leader and followers interact in a way that enables the leader to influence the actions of the followers in a non-coercive way, towards the achievement of certain aims or objectives”. With this in mind, critically evaluate how the leadership style adopted by a manager may either facilitate or hinder change in organizations.

Particular consideration may be given to:
Word count and presentation: You are required to submit an essay-type assignment not exceeding 4,000 words (excluding references). The essay should be divided into two parts, separating your response to Part One and Part Two. Each part should provide an introduction, the main section (with sub-sections) a conclusion, and a reference list. If using tables/images provide labels and sources. Write in a suitable academic style.
Submission: Your individual assignment should be submitted by 11.59 pm [UK time] on 30th April 2021 via the Turnitin submission link. Your file name should provide your matriculation number, taking the format of 40xxxxxx MOC. Your name should NOT appear.
Weighting: The assignment accounts for 90% of your overall mark on this module. Parts one and two of the assignment are weighted equally.
Referencing: Follow the APA 6th, Ed. referencing system throughout. Provide a separate reference list for Part One and Part Two. All references provided in your list should link to a corresponding within text citation.
Avoid plagiarism: Always provide a reference to support your arguments, ensuring that you cite all sources you draw ideas from and that you attribute any quotes appropriately to the author. Turnitin software may be used to detect plagiarism. Further information Requesting an Extension
In summary, students requesting an extension must apply via the extensions tool in Myplace. The extension request requirements vary depending on the length of the extension requested and the method by which the request is submitted. Department staff will log all requests and use this log to identify students who may require support. The Policy and Procedure on Extensions to Coursework submission provides examples of what might be grounds for granting an extension and what is unlikely to be grounds for the granting of an extension. The list does not cover every possible scenario so students should discuss with staff any circumstances not listed that may be negatively impacting their studies.
Late submission of coursework
In summary, assessments submitted after the time set on the day of the deadline without an approved extension will be subject to penalties on a sliding percentage scale. Penalties will be applied to late submitted assessments up until seven calendar days from the day and time of the submission deadline, and assessments submitted after this time will receive a mark of zero. The sliding penalty scale can be found within the Policy and Procedure for Late Submission of Coursework
If you experience unexpected circumstances before the time set on the day of the deadline and it results in a delay to your submission of fewer than four hours, you can request the grace period be applied to your coursework submission via the late submissions tool in Myplace – full information can be found within your course handbook.
